Anti-Black Race Riot Erupts In Tel Aviv, Israel
Violent race riots that shook south Tel Aviv sparked shock in Israel last Thursday, but also prompted top-level calls for the immediate arrest and expulsion of tens of thousands of African migrants.
The latest unrest to sweep the impoverished neighbourhoods around Tel Aviv’s central bus station erupted when a demonstration of around 1,000 people who were protesting against the rising number of Africans moving into the area, turned violent.
“Shock, violence and hatred of foreigners in Tel Aviv” was the headline in the Maariv daily, which described scenes of chaos as demonstrators went on the rampage with sticks and stones, attacking African-run shops and smashing up a car driven by two African men.
“Blacks out!” shouted demonstrators in the crowd, while others yelled: “Send the Sudanese back to Sudan,” several news reports said, as other protesters derided the “bleeding-heart leftists” working to help them.
Wow
Racist Israelis? NO! Get right out of town!

Update: 11 year old trans girl lost appeal
The above article is an update. Her mother went to appeal to keep her out of the psychiatric ward and lost. She will be institutionalized because of her expression of her gender. She will be held until she conforms to male gender and then released to foster care, not her mother who was supporting her.
Please, if you haven’t signed the petition, sign it, reblog it, ask your friends to sign it. We’ve managed to get 40K signatures for a pageant model, we’ve only gotten 11K for a little girl about to have her life ruined. Lets get on the ball and spread the word.
I know you guys have managed to do big things before, so, whilst not being modification related, this has been posted. Do what you do best, sign, and hope it works.

Three years ago today, Dr. Tiller was murdered in his church by an anti-choice fanatic. #DrTiller provided abortions for 30+ years.
Abortion Gang is having a collective blog remembrance. Will you be blogging about Tiller or the need for access to late-term abortions or the principles for which he fought and, ultimately, died? Let Abortion Gang know.
Here is Feministing’s post from the day that Tiller was murdered.

Makes sense, it’s not as though Florida has ever been at the center of a presidential election controversy before.

Read this now: "No contradiction: I'm black and gay"
From CNN columnist LZ Granderson’s point of view, lots of media and political talks try to pin gay and black communities against each other. Recently, it was revealed that NOM was intentionally trying to drive a wedge between the two groups to benefit their anti-gay cause.
For LZ, you can’t separate the categories of “black” and “gay.” As an openly gay black man - and a Christian one at that - LZ talks about how these two aspects of his identity can’t possibly be at war with one another. Some compelling moments:
And despite the efforts of black religious conservatives to ignore that intersection, the truth is that intersection is a major part of black culture. It’s in our literature (James Baldwin), our films (Lee Daniels), in politics, baseball fields (Glenn Burke), the Black Panthers (Angela Davis) and the civil rights movement (Bayard Rustin).
That intersection exists in our hair salons, barbershops and, yes, even our churches.
Before becoming a journalist, I worked in youth ministry in two churches in my early 20s. I lived with one of my pastors and his family and would study the Bible for hours on end under his tutelage. I fasted and tithed. I poured my heart out to the kids in the congregation. On occasion I even would fall asleep on the steps of the altar worshipping my God.
I am black. I am gay. And yes, I am a Christian.
Before you read this, be warned that the comments section gets pretty hostile from all sides. But don’t let that deter you; LZ is a great writer and a great person, and his opinions need to be heard. This topic is becoming more important by the day - give this a read for a solid perspective on the debate.

Written by: Samiya Bashir ” “It’s the big pink elephant in the middle of the room. Everyone knows it’s there — and we quietly tiptoe around it, afraid that even acknowledging its existence would throw off the delicate balance that exists in our pretending it isn’t standing there, grazing on our avoidance. If we do choose to look at the elephant’s skin, we see that she carries the tattoos of racial division — exclusion, nasty feelings, words, and actions, the unspoken rules of separation.
Curve: Fear of a Black Lesbian Planet
Black lesbians trying to find out who we are both as women of color and as lesbians find the invisible wall we bump up against while trying to find access into the lesbian community even harder to bear. White women may feel equally bruised by a situation where they don’t feel they are being exclusionary at all. Some black women, reeling from accusations of being overly sensitive, question whether or not we are just imagining foul play.
“I firmly believe that when we sense racism, it’s happening,” says Danielle Abrams, a biracial performance artist who addresses issues of race, gender and sexuality in her work. “I think we’re all told that it’s not happening. We’ve been taught to think that we’re hysterical or neurotic when we sense racism.”
Even when black women do find blatant examples of racism within the lesbian community, just as in the outside world, we often must struggle to begin a dialogue in such a way that we can be heard. “There’s no voice for it,” says Abrams. “There’s not enough language to describe it, and often we’re seen as attacking or violent if we do bring it up.”
Johanna Bermudez, a Puerto Rican/West Indian filmmaker, agrees: “Many white women have a fear of confronting a woman of color. There is a stereotype that we will go off on them if they approach us, that we will not know how to communicate civilly.”
